The Beginning
Welcome to the Building Resilience program brought to you by AuthenticMe and Live Joy Your Way. Resilience is our capacity to manage adversity, figure out how to make the best of a situation, and also recover from setbacks, both big and small.
Some people think that you are either born with resiliency or you are not. The truth may lie somewhere in between. We all have resiliency. It may be latent and we just have to work to cultivate it. We can in fact train to get better at resiliency and our ability to cope with adversity.
This course will discuss six techniques to help grow and strengthen your resiliency.
A key note about resiliency is that is not just about how to endure stress. It is about facing adversity and finding a way to make a better ending to the situation. Crisis and difficult times can often lead to new choice points and learning opportunities. Unlike post-traumatic stress disorder which leaves us with negative effects, it is post-traumatic growth that enables us to really propel ourselves forward.
A thought: When faced with adversity, think to yourself what would a story of resilience look like here? This is a way to shape resilience as something you do rather than something you have.
In the diagram below we can see where a point of where we are and the breakout of possible outcomes. Those we hope for and those that we see as the worst possibilities. Mapping these out can oftentimes help us break down the problem we are facing.
Below is a starting point when building resilience. Reviewing your core values. When situations are stressful and overwhelming, using your core values as your lighthouse is key.
